Training for Second batch of National Observers and Returning Officers on Elections.
In the training for first batch of Observers and Returning Officers, the Commission trained a total of 44 Observers and 58 Returning Officers. In order that there is a large pool of Observers and Returning Officers which the Commission could depend upon in time of emergencies, the Commission considers the training for second batch of Observers and Returning Officers very vital.

The Training of Presiding and Polling Officers successfully completed throughout the kingdom.
The Election Commission of Bhutan has successfully completed the training of Presiding Officers and Polling Officers throughout the Kingdom. Eight teams of three officers each had proceeded to the 20 Dzongkhags to coordinate with the Dzongkhags the training of the Presiding and Polling Officers, in the run up to the first National Parliamentary Mock Elections scheduled in March 2007.

Netherlands’ Ambassador to Bhutan Visits the Office of the Election Commission

Returning Officers trained on Elections.
Fifty eight Returning Officers were given training by the Election Commission of Bhutan from 13th February to 15th February 2007 at the Conference Hall of the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan in Phuentsholing.

The training of Observers was successfully conducted
The training for Observers has been successfully conducted from 5 – 6 February 2007 at the conference hall of the Ministry of Health. The training was given to fifty nine Observers who were nominated by the Commission from the various Ministries and Agencies who will be on temporary duty during elections.

Working Group Meeting between the Election Commission of Bhutan and Election Commission of India in New Delhi, India, 11 to 15 December 2006.
Dr. Phuntsho Namgyel, Director of the Election Commission of Bhutan returned from India from the Working Group Meeting with the Election Commission of India from 11 to 15 December 2006.
The Working Group Meeting was following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two Commissions on 24th May 2006.

An Eight Member EU Troika Delegation Visits the Election Commission
An eight member EU Troika delegation led by Mr. Pekka Metso, Director, Unit for Asia and Oceania visited the office of the Election Commission on 14 November 2006. The delegation said that they were privileged to be visiting Bhutan at a period where a remarkable political change is in the process, and the EU wants to reaffirm its support to the Bhutanese Government.

Training on Election for Thimphu Municipality and Business Community
The Election Commission of Bhutan, in its continued effort to provide electoral education and training programme completed two days training workshop for the Thimphu Municipality and Business Community leaders at the BCCI hall from 6-7 November, 2006.
Speaking to the 60 participants, Dasho Kunzang Wangdi, Chief Election Commissioner said that as the elections in 2008 is approaching we must all be well prepared and well informed about the electoral process.

Training of Trainers for Dzongkhag Election Staff Officers.
Sixty Dzongkhag Election Staff Officers completed a week’s training on managing and conducting elections at the Royal Banquet Hall from 9th- 14th October, 2006. The Election Staff Officers were the 20 Dzongkhag Electoral Officers, 20 Dzongkhag Registration Officers and 20 Dzongkhag Delimitation Clerks.

Election Commission of Bhutan session with the Gups and Dzongkhag Yargye Tshogchung Chairpersons.
The two day session of the Election Commission of Bhutan with the Dzongkhag Yargye Tshogchung (DYT) and Gewog Yargye Tshogchung (GYT) was conducted successfully at the Swimming Pool Complex from the 25th – 26th of September, 2006.
The Election Commission of Bhutan briefed the participants on elections and election processes and also asked for their ideas and inputs in the Delimitation Exercise based on their knowledge of the villages and gewogs in their jurisdiction.
